John Henderson Jr. is a second generation Lotus black belt with over twenty years of martial arts experience. John, along with his father John Sr., brother Shelton, and sister Shannon began studying Lotus Self-Defense in 1990 under Jack J. Gentry at West Charlotte recreation center in Charlotte, North Carolina. John is currently a certified personal trainer through America Muscle and Fitness (AMFPT), and also assists in the fundamental training of local night club security. Between 1993 and 2005 John competed and participated in numerous martial arts tournaments such as “Dojo” and the United States Junior Karate Circuit “USJKC” where he was awarded competitor of the year from 1995-98 in multiple divisions.

John is now the Co-Founder of the Lotus Martial Arts Academy, where he is currently instructing. He understands that today’s generation need active role models who they can admire and it is getting harder and harder for parents to find reinforcement for the values and principles that they would like to see in their children. The Lotus Martial Arts Academy is dedicated to personal growth in themselves and in their students and operates on the belief that what you learn and practice in the “Dojo” should be applied to everyday life.

John has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Information Systems from Johnson C. Smith University and an MBA from Strayer University with a concentration in management.  Both universities are located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
